Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Today is the Feast of St. John of the Cross, who wrote one of my favorite poems, which is especially good for Advent:
Quote:
The Wayfaring Virgin

The Wayfaring Virgin
Word in her womb
comes walking your way-
Haven't you room for your Virgin and Mother?
Haven't you room?
When Bethlehem's coldness
bids her depart
O say to the virgin:
Come to my heart
with your heavenly burden
Come to my heart
- St. John of the Cross

St. John of the Cross, pray for us

John of the Cross and Theresa of Avila are two of the greatest Doctors of the Church. I've always felt had more Catholics been exposed to their writings, New Ageism and false spirituality would've never been able to gain a foothold in the Church.

Pray for us
Amen
Mike

Mike, I believe you will like these comments by Father Gerhard:

Quote:
Today the Church remembers and honours this Spanish Saint.

Saint John of the Cross’ personal experiences of suffering are numerous (1).
He leaves a legacy for us to discover the deeper meaning of suffering…
a “dark night of the senses”… “the dark night of the soul…”

Let’s briefly look at his impact on two mystics of our time.

Dear Mike,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, the writings of St. John of the Cross and St. Teresa of Avila can help anyone truly seeking to live a holy life in Christ. Clergy, religious and lay -- all are called to be saints and to learn Christ in the Church, as Bl. John Paul II did, at the "school of Mary". False doctrines and false teachers have come and gone throughout the history of the Church, but God continues to raise up saints as well.

May the Holy Spirit overshadow each one of us as He did Mary, that we may become the saints we are called to be. Let us welcome her as her husband Joseph did, bearing Christ for all, and as all the saints welcomed Jesus and Mary, especially those of the order of Carmel dedicated to her in a special way. :)
