David,

You are right to point out that I'm speaking without knowledge of specific statistics and perhaps overly broadly and of course I know many people who live there who are not homosexual. I just know that that it does obviously have a very high concentration of homosexuals and that is language that certainly my friends, many of them homosexuals who frequent the area and the Angelenos I know use. The fact is that there seems to be a preponderance of homosexuals at this church. Now, you can ask how I know that but really how often is any Mass largely comprised of men? Certainly there were always non homosexuals in the crowd...clearly married couples and a few children but, at least during the period I'm talking about, the Masses tended to be heavily weighted towards men. Especially the noon service. The only altar servers I ever saw there were grown men...they have few children at this parish though that may not be the reality now.

I'll have to check out some Masses there soon....it really was many, many years ago since I've been there as it's been four years since I even worked at the company and many years beforehand that I did the traveling that led me to that area. My first psychiatrist lived there and was openly gay and has since moved to Palm Springs and works among the fairly large population population of homosexuals there. And, it certainly isn't happenstance that the gay pride festival is held there.

David,

Quote:
West Hollywood, a city of Los Angeles County, California, was incorporated on November 29, 1984, with a 2000 residential population estimate of 34,675.[1] This city has a dense population of homosexuals, according to a 2002 demographic analysis by Sara Kocher Consulting for the City of West Hollywood

James,

Words and phrases like "a dense population" or "high proportion" are so vague as to be practically meaningless.

The church where the Soho Gay Masses are being celebrated will be used by the Anglican Ordinariate.

Quote:
Special Masses for gay Catholics at a London church are to be scrapped, the Archbishop of Westminster has said.

Archbishop Vincent Nichols said Masses at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Warwick Street, Soho, would end.

He said the Masses were not in line with the church's central teaching on sexuality.

Gay rights charity Stonewall said: "It is a real shame he's taken away an opportunity for gay Catholics to celebrate Mass in a safe environment."

Archbishop Nichols, the leader of the Roman Catholic Church in England and Wales, has been one of the loudest voices opposing government plans to allow same-sex marriages.

He said, in a statement, that "people with same-sex attraction" would continue to receive pastoral care.

Quote:
The church will be dedicated during Lent to the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham, a group set up by Pope Benedict XVI in 2011 for Anglicans who defect to Roman Catholicism.

Does anyone know anything about the rumour that the Soho Masses are not being stopped, but simply moved to Farm Street?

(And if so, do you have a reliable source?)
