All I can say is.......24 years ago when I started having children..........a kid on the Chess team would have been my worst nightmare. I find this very amusing for some reason.

I still cant figure out how a kid that struggles in math, and seems to only like history, can make the tournament chess team.

You're raising my husband!

Bad at math, good at science and humanities, very good at chess.

I admire people who can play chess; I never learned. :violin:

He should be a natural Chess is very logical and tactical. It is steeped in History. As far as a son of yours playing chess being a nightmare, chess is played by some of the world's greatest minds.

FWIW, both of my son's played tournament chess...and then they teamed up to play me.

My dad taught all of us to play at very young ages. When kids would ask if I wanted to play checkers, I'd tell them I didn't know how but we can play chess. My brothers and I would have contests with one another. My younger brother and I still argue over whether or not he has ever won against me.

If I remember correctly, Ian loves to study battles and remembers their details...that's chess. He's learned battlefield strategy and that helps tremendously.

He loves to play Stratego and Risk. I just keep asking, Am I dead yet? I can hang with him in chess for a while, but then I get distracted or miscalculate or something and then I am toast.

I know that its a good thing, but even Ian is going to wait to tell his brothers. :) It still makes me laugh. It just doesnt seem to fit.
