Christ is risen!

Ok, I'm a little late on this post, but not really because I only saw the enthronement this past Sunday.

I would just like to say, however, that it was weirder to me to hear a commemoration of an Eastern bishop named Gerald than to hear prayers for "our Holy Father, Benedict, Pope of Rome.." in the Litanies.

lol! At least it's more sensible than people randomly changing their names to the Greek form just to seem more Eastern... or putting on a fake Russian accent.

Funny story. There's a priest in the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Boston. His baptismal name was Michael Wilson. He is a convert to Orthodoxy, but clearly has a good Christian name. He is a celibate priest. Sometimes, when ordaining a celibate man to the diaconate, a bishop will change his name. So he tells the story that, without prior warning, he kneels at the altar and hears "The grace divine, which always heals that which is infirm and completes that which is lacking ordains the most devout Subdeacon Agathonikos..."

So, yes, he is now Fr. Agathonikos Wilson. One of the auxiliary bishops who was at the Greek seminary at the time picked on him, "You let him name you Agathonikos?" To which, of course, the response was, "What? I'm supposed to look up at him and say 'Ohi, sevasmiotate. Not that one'?"
