Hi everyone,

I just came back from Adoration, and the priest there told me something disturbing. As I was talking to him just before leaving, he picked up a rosary from the small table there and had a look at it. He told me he was just checking it out as there were some counterfit rosaries circulating that had evil signs on them. He was alerted to this by one of the other people who do Adoration and that they'd read about it on the internet. He said he had found two like this in the chapel himself.

Has anyone heard of this? I've looked online but haven't come across anything.

Wondering
Heather T.

Heather, can you find out what we are to look for on the rosary?

I have never really looked that close, but I will now.

I finally got ahold of Father Jim. He said these counterfits are called new age chaplets. Some of the things that he says to look out for are:

Behind the corpus there are serpents intwined in the wood.
Above the crucifix on the top end of the cross sometimes there are egyptian, greek or roman symbolism of a smaller snake representing "baal" symbol of the evil one.
Can also have four pentagons/pentragrams near the 4 outside edges of the cross, representing an occult preciple representing air/fire/earth...etc. A sorcery call.
Circles with a little points in the center representing the sun and alchemy.
The most common ones are the circles and pentagrams.

Let's all hope this is just an urban rumor. It frightens me to think that someone would take something as holy and revered as the crucifix and turn it to other means besides glorifying Christ!

May God Bless you all!

Actually yes, this is not a hoax. These beads look like rosaries but are not rosaries. They are used by people into things like witchcraft, goddess worship and satanic worship. A lot of the people using them like to even boast that they are like the rosary, but they aren't. Oh, and yes there are strange symbols on them. There are a lot of "new age" shops downtown here and they sell them there.

There is such a thing as the black mass, so I guess a "black" rosary was eventually going to pop up. The evil one loves to take what is Christian and turn it.

By the sound of them I think they would be quite expensive to buy, or at least too costly to 'plant' in Catholic churches for evil purposes.

If they are for 'new age' worship, I wonder what they would be praying on the beads?

I collect old holy medals, rosaries etc., and found an old medal (similar in size and shape to the Catholic ones) with Egyptian symbols on it in a St Vincent de Paul shop. I suspect it originates from one of the Middle East countries.
