Mary,

You remind me about a story of my little cousin who was a micro premie at 1.8lbs (6 1/2 months) and not only survived but is a very bright, outgoing child. She has a couple of issues but the biggest was a very severe GI issue that kept her with a feeding tube for most of her 4 year old life...she only fairly recently had it removed because she is finally willing to eat enough to get sufficient nutrition without the tube so every time she has a desire to eat it is somewhat a cause for celebration. One night she woke her mother during a thunderstorm and told her, "Mama, I'm scared of the storm but I also think this would be a good time for chippies".

Val, that is so precious...I love it. :o :)

Also, thanks for posting it because I was beginning to think I had to be way off track posting something so, er, unusual!

I'll go ahead and off-topic myself for this thought, but it's interesting to me that the Church allows a man to be pope well into his 80s, but doesn't allow cardinals of the same age to even vote for a pope. Perhaps someone here can help me understand the logic.

Well, first of all...I'm almost 81. I still have excellent intelligence...however, quite often I am visited by it's cousin...short term memory. :tsk: :tsk:

Fortunately, she doesn't stay very long.

Hmm...what was I going to say next. :o

Exactly when was the last time you saw fettle used in a forum post?

Andrew,

And I was thinking it's getting hot here. There might be a tiny bit of rain.

Val,

Believe it or not it was almost 60 degrees this weekend and just lovely.

On the other hand, we lost an hour due to the commencement of daylight savings time, and I am really tired today. You would not think that "losing" one hour would cause this in me...

When I worked, and had to be reasonably alert, I prepared by shifting my time of going to be and rising about ten minutes a day for the preceding week.

I'm not organized enough to do this; however, it is good advice! :)

I completely forgot to set my clocks ahead and I've never done that before. I don't usually have a problem with time changes but I guess that is easier to say when you don't have to work.

Happy Friday all. My son has a Karate test tomorrow and he's very nervous, even though his sensei told him he's "100% ready." He will be testing for his last green belt.

How are my friends Mary and Val doing?

Well, first of all, it's always great to hear from friends! The problem is...I'm a listener...I hardly ever know what to say.

Secondly...Val says lots of clever things...so, lets wait til she comes by and says some more clever things!!!

Thank you for asking, Andrew!

I'm truly grateful to Fr. Z for this forum and all the wonderful people here.

I rarely go anywhere because it's so painful getting in and out of the car.
My son-in-law puts my wheelchair in the trunk of the car and it's nice
seeing the outside world every now and then.

But home is nicer. :)

Andrew,

How did your son do? Unless you're just so ashamed of him you just can't tell us :)

I'm ok Mary, fretting over a possible lead on a job nearby. It would be perfect except the owner of the company is a jerk and doesn't like me...but he never had anyone in charge of hiring before so maybe I can get her excited about me and then find herself defending me to him...that's the game plan at least.

As far as being clever.

A friend once told another friend.."Val is hilarious, you just have to sit near her" and I didn't say a word all through dinner. He said, "I thought you were hilarious" and I said, "well, I can be but not under all this pressure!

Reminds me of when my Fred and I were at our first Church conference,
with 3 priests and several other people.

A priest would say something and then...silence.
Same thing, two more times...more silence

The next time he spoke, I said, "my everlovin and I heard something like that, too."

He followed with, "why do you call him, "everlovin"?

I replied, "I can't help it...I keep forgetting his name."

That priest laughed so hard he almost fell off his chair.

The meeting became a great success...much was resolved.

Thanks to my "everlovin".

He passed, and is now a full green belt! It was a 5 hour test and he was sore the next day!

Hope the job works out! :)

Thank you Andrew. I did well in the interview in my opinion. I can be quite well spoken and articulate when I have something to say and I always had a good answer to everything. Honestly though, I don't think I can do the job and I know people who work there and know the person who just left the position and they all hate it there but I'll take an awful job over nothing...I'm desperate and highly adaptable. I just don't have the skills for the job.

For six years my landlord has been wanting to put a new air conditioner in but I needed to clear off all my computer stuff and paperwork stuff off a big heavy desk right under it and wanted to wait until I was ready to move it to a new spot permanently but had to just suddenly get it ready to be moved just enough to do the work because I'd decided to leave it where it was under the air conditioner. It killed my back to get everything ready but at least now my millions of cords are cleaned off...drives me crazy having all that dust accumulated on the cords and unable to clean it. However, now the new air works so well that I'm too cold working under it and have to move my desk somewhere permanently and unhook everything all over again and find someone to help me. The homeless guy across the street will help me (very clean..works out at the gym every morning and takes a shower) and my friend will help me but besides the desk I have two trunks filled with nothing but books that need to be moved and I have no idea where to put everything. Plus, I really can't have my desk down right now so hopefully no more 90 degree days for a couple of months.

Simon,

Because St Patrick, who evangelised Ireland, used a shamrock (which is green) to help the Irish understand the Holy Trinity. Emerald green is the national colour.

The Emerald City is a sobriquet for Sydney, NSW. It is also the title of a play by David Williamson that is set in Sydney.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emerald_City_(play)

Quote:
Elaine calls Sydney "The Emerald city of Oz. Everyone comes here along their yellow brick roads looking for the answers to their problems and all they find are the demons within themselves."

The play takes many swipes at contemporary occurrences in the entertainment industry, such as Steven Spielberg's purchase of Australian writer Thomas Keneally's novel Schindler's Ark, which one character jokes will be made into a film in which the Jews are rescued by space aliens. At one point, Mike sums up the "great Australian novel", Henry Handel Richardson's The Fortunes of Richard Mahony, as "Doctor's marriage goes bad, he goes to the goldfields, gets gangrene and dies", to which Kate says "I don't think your synopsis quite does the book justice". To that, he simply dismisses it as a "downer".

And here I thought it was as simple as it being green...really green unless my experience of it was odd.

I watched a BBC web video on the partition of India .Lord Moutbatten was the last Viceroy of India. He brought forward the date of partition from 1948 to 1947.About 15 million people died when muslims went over to pakistan and hindus crossed over to India
Mountbatten was assassinated in Ireland in 1979.I can now understand why the Irish have so much mistrust of the mainland British.History is so full of bloodshed..There seems to be peace in the British Isles but not in the sub continent.

To the degree that there is an official "national color" for Ireland, green gets the nod. St. Patrick's Blue was the official color previously, and is still used in some settings.

Besides the particular example of the shamrock, there's the rest of the landscape, too. Ireland is, well... verdant. The term "Forty Shades of Green" predates the song of the same name.

Said song was written by none other than Johnny Cash, by the way.

Just heard screeching tires, big crash, more screeching tires...sounded like a hit and run so I went outside. A woman in a BMW slammed into a truck and took off. They're down the block now..he chased her and parked her in when she had no choice but to stop because her front left wheel was turn halfway around. I don't even know how she drove that far..the skid marks show her driving into the oncoming lanes quite a ways so it's a miracle nobody else was hit.

At least an accident a week on my corner or across the street from me. One of the most vivid memories being the time a drunk driver (right after the bars closed) slammed into a car parked in front and both exploded into flames. Neighbors were screaming at the man to undo his seat belt and someone dragged him out. The car he hit was just parked and nobody was in it. I was trying to simultaneously give the info to 911 and get my shoes on as it was windy and was concerned about my trees in front catching fire. Grabbed my wallet and went out front and it was amazing and they started to try and evacuate the apartment building where the car was parked but then realized it wasn't in that much danger. Just got a couple of units cleared out. When the fire was out, my neighbors and I who were watching suddenly realized we were cold...it through off that much heat.

I have hypergraphia today. I'm all over the net talking constantly.

Mary,

I'm always making lists...have three big ones somewhere too but I think I threw them in a bag in a fit of not knowing what to do with paperwork and now I have a new list that says to clean out that bag.

Did someone mention lists (agenda)?

Quote:
Hacker: We only have one item on the agenda.
Sir Humphrey: Then it is agendum, Prime Minister.
Bernard: I don't think that the Prime Minister got to the 2nd desclension...

Mary,

I don't know about you but James has many qualities I envy.

James is just being himself. Maybe a bit overbearing at times but mostly an all around good chap. He is a member of our nuclear family here at COL. If we were all the same it would be a rather boring site. :)

Greetings, Schultzz...I agree...you and James and Val are treasures along with Andrew, and because of my short term memory I probably forgot a plethora more including myself.

oops! I almost forgot Ian and Fr Z and if it weren't for them we couldn't have such a great hangout when we need to relax and maybe cool off at the same time!!!
