The president of the Maldives has called for leniency in the case of a 15-year-old alleged rape victim who could be publicly whipped for the crime of fornication.

Amnesty International says there is strong reason to believe the girl was repeatedly raped by her stepfather for years, eventually giving birth to a baby, found buried on the family's property.

Police have charged the stepfather and mother, but under Sharia law, the victim also faces the charge of fornication, punishable by 100 lashes in public.

Not very different from Saudi Arabia-lots of Asians go to work as domestics and get raped.Law is also a travesty in Pakistan-another Muslim nation.I think the root lies with muslim law

muslim law is: do whatever you feel like doing. It's God's will.

This was what President Martin regretted. He thought he was doing something good. It was a disaster. How can anybody know what is the right thing to do?

Misrepresenting others is a serious matter, Norman. We should be careful to represent things accurately, even if we don't agree with them.

This is disgusting. Clearly the law is wrong in this case. Objectively wrong.

Its far worse than that.If I am a Saudi Muslim and I rape and beat my domestic ,the religious police will hold her responsible for the rape -because she seduced me.
This is not misrepresenting others-these are sad facts- I just cannot locate the link right away.
In Pakistan if I am a catholic or infidel (kaffir/) then my witness before court of law has no meaning
It is very sick-muslims in india have the lowest education.
It is not "doing what you want" --Can I force a burka on someone just because I am a sex maniac?
Afghanistan the land locked Islamic country gives a good feel of pure Islam -violence against women
In India Muslims are about 13% so they can't have it their way - bad joke -but true

But it is wrong. Objectively wrong. It violates natural law and reason to hold a victim responsible, even in part, for a crime inflicted on them.

All are unjust. But Muslim law is not that you just get to do whatever you want.
