Though Jesus was God he took the form of a mere human person and came into this world (Philippians 2:7) to proclaim good news to the poor, liberty to the captives, recovery of sight to the blind and to set at free those who are oppressed (Luke 4:18). The world however did not recognize him (John 1:10). He was therefore wounded for our transgressions, was bruised for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that made us whole, and with his stripes we are healed. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth (Isaiah 53: 5 &7). Furthermore, during his suffering and death he forgave his persecutors (Luke 23:34); and was concerned about the suffering they would bring upon themselves by their sins rather than his own suffering (Luke 23:28). Through his chastisement he healed us and set us free of sin; so that we too can love one another as he has loved us, quietly bear each other’s burdens, forgive without any limit and bind each other’s wounds. Christianity therefore is not about our rights, our feelings or our life. It is about sacrifice, undying fidelity, humility, obedience and forgiveness.

One caveat - Jesus 'became' a man... but not a human person - the Son of God remains a Divine Person!

God gets nothing from us.
Christianity is about our life, our eternal life in Heaven. This is the only reason the Son of God took on a human nature.

God' first words to Adam and Eve was, "Increase and multiply". He made us to be social people first. He puts himself second on the priority list.

Sacrifice: good parents sacrifice a lot to raise their kids. They sacrifice enough I think.

Undying fidelity: since probably nobody who has lived a while has shown this, we have a problem.

Humility: not servility and groveling but an accurate understanding or our place in the order of things.

Obedience: according to the Church, anybody, even somebody who has never heard of God, can be saved if he obeys his conscience. It's not only a feature of religion.

Forgiveness: some people are pushed beyond their ability to forgive. We shouldn't find faulty with them. Consider the parents of those children slaughtered in the Newton, Conn. shooting. I wouldn't ask them to forgive.

This was what President Martin regretted. He thought he was doing something good. It was a disaster. How can anybody know what is the right thing to do?

God can't get anything from us.

Praise and worship give him nothing. We do that for our own benefit.

You might want to factor in this:
Quote:
The Judgment of the Nations.* 31f “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit upon his glorious throne, 32g and all the nations* will be assembled before him. And he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. 34 Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35h For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, 36naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.’ 37Then the righteous* will answer him and say, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?’ 40i And the king will say to them in reply, ‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.’ 41* j Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42k For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, 43a stranger and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.’ 44* Then they will answer and say, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to your needs?’ 45He will answer them, ‘Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.’ 46l And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

God gets love from us. I think it is the only thing He asks of us. All else that He asks either supports that return of His love, or is beneficial to our growth to perfection.

Mary,

Quote:
40i And the king will say to them in reply, ‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.’

"you did for me" in the sense that God asks us to do this, and if we do it we are credited as if we did it for him, but it's not in the sense that God gets anything.
