"One of his latest recordings is To Hope! A Celebration: A Mass in the Revised Roman Ritual. But the composition resulted in more than just more minutes of fame for Brubeck.
It is what brought him into the Catholic Church. He wrote it in 1980 and finally got to record it in 1995."

Has anybody here heard this? "Sounds" interesting ....

Squirt,

I have heard it. As a matter of fact I have the CD. It was recorded live at the Washington National Cathedral and involved an orchestra and chorus in addition to the Dave Brubeck Quartet.

The CD is on the Telarc label. I'm not sure if it is currently in print.

According to the liner notes it was commissioned by Ed Murray of Our Sunday Visitor.

Brubeck said that the Our Father came to him in a dream, and that was what convinced him to convert.

OK just checked Amazon and it is available.

Peter,

It may have been before your time, but I used one of the tracks from To Hope! in a blindfold test. I don't remember which track it was, but as I recall it got kind of a lukewarm reception. :)

Surprise me David

Think it must have been before my time, as I have only had two tests set by you.

Must find time to listen to that link you provided

Peter

Squirt

Put it down to old age and any other cause you can think of. I just realised that I gave you the same link, that you posted. Must admit I did not think you got Australian Cath News in the Snowy Prairies

On the other hand having it twice is better than not at all.

Peter

Hey Peter,

I figure that all of that walking upside down at the bottom of the world probably factors in ... :P

And it's not really all that snowy here. Only about a foot on the ground ... with the stuff at the bottom having arrived in late October ...
