Ok, so you're not Gods but you'll always be God's in my eyes.

I've been sending out a contact list to about 22 people in a group at church and some have not been able to open it. It's from Word 2010. I think I can do a "save as" and save it as an earlier Sord product but not sure about that one. However, one person said they can open Adobe PDF files so I would like to learn how to convert my document to a file that she can open. I have the updated Adobe on my computer. Bless you.

Are one of your 'Save As ...' options not to save as PDF?

Dominique,

Ok, so I feel like an idiot. There it was as plain as day. So, you're a lesser God but still a God. Hopefully, she'll get it without further trouble. Computers are just a necessary evil to me. I try to love them, I know they have simplified our lives tremendously, but mostly, they've made me feel stupid in a major area of life where once I only felt stupid in one or two areas of life.

I use and recommend CutePDF Writer freeware. It is like a virtual printer that allows you to create a PDF document from any application that you can print from.

You can aways save as plain text, which can be opened by anyone without any special software.

As you say, saving to old versions of Office applications is easy. Just pull down on "Save As type" in the "Save As" dialog box.

You will note one of the options is PDF. There is no need for third party software. PDF is not a preferable format because it cannot be changed (without expensive software).

James,

I actually can't open mail with a letter opener. I think you need special training so perhaps an electric one would be preferable despite my fear of technology. This is why I used to have an assistant at my former and last, real job.

BTW, I second Daniel's recommendation of the Cute PDF Writer. As he said, it is free, easy to use, and works with any application that supports printing.

Moderator's comment:
Thread title changed. I don't think Val intended any disrespect, but we need to be respectful of the Lord and not use His name (or title, if you wish) to refer to each other - especially with a capital G.

Sorry Rebecca, I was using the term Gods in a mythological sort of way so thought it ok.

That's not necessarily a bad thing, but I would strongly urge you not to capitalize it.

While Americans seem to no longer really have any regard for the proper use of capitalization, capitalizing a word refers to a single unique individual or group of individuals. When you say "God", most people in English hear Yahweh, Jehovah, Jesus. Not generic mythological polytheistic nonexistent beings once worshipped as such.

That's what I thought Val, but for the reasons Jeff mentioned it was bugging me every time I saw the thread pop up.

Were they worshipped as generic mythological polytheistic nonexistent beings? I thought they were worshipped as gods.

Jeff,

Very good point, I guess the reflex of capitalizing God. Thanks Rebecca, for changing the title.

I'm not sure what the problem in the first post was,

however,

when I want to send a wordprocessor file by email, ( just the text, that is ) I first copy it to Notepad.
Notepad strips off all the hidden wordprocessor characters leaving plain text which can be sent by email.

( today I found out that Notepad also strips off Hyperlinks from link references, leaving just the text. This is useful if you want to copy a long list of link references from somewhere on the internet to a forum. The Hyperlinks use up a long of computer space and you can't copy many of them to most forums. )

On my computer, Notepad is in the "Applications" section of my email page ( YAHOO email )

Good tip, Norman. I use it all the time to strip out formatting and URL's from pasted text.

Personally, since I'm a "both hands on keyboard at all times" sort of user, I just do Windows-R, then type "notepad" to run notepad. But whatever works for you.

What's Windows-R ?

Ask me anything about IBM mainframe programming in machine language and I'll tell you,
but these PCs baffle me.

Hold down the "Windows" key and press "R".

On my keyboard the "windows" key is found on the bottom-left between "Ctrl" and "Alt".

Got it.

Didn't even know there was a Windows key. When I was in high school Bill Gates was in diapers.
But I'll be in diapers before he is.

Is that what the key is?

Perhaps notepad would work better for me to create resumes for job sites as the sites always do weird things to the formatting and I go beserk and who wants to hire me at that point?

Send emails to yourself with stuff you wrote on Notepad. See how it works.
email does weird stuff too. Has nearly driven me insane a few times.
