As we were here . . .

I just finished Jeff Shaara's "Gone for Soldiers", a fictionalized account of the 1847 US/Mexican conflict that focuses mostly on Winfield Scott and Robert E. Lee.

I loved it!

Of course, Historical Fiction is one of my favorite genrés and Jeff and his dad, Michael, are two of my favorite authors in this area.

I will consider your position if stated with firm, well-thought-out, quiet reasoning. Hateful diatribe, ad hominem attacks and shouted rhetoric don't impress.

Jim: Like yourself, I am an avid reader. I love bookstore browsing.

Alas, my favorite three used bookstores--all brick and mortar--I do not shop online---are now closed.

Backshelf Books in the Benson area of Omaha closed a few years ago. then Pageturners used books closed after being my mainstay (they were closest!) for 18 years!!

And Friendly Used Books closed last year!!NOOOOOO!

I regard booksellers as friends---not only do I browse books I would chat with the owners about books--and many other topics!

I can still find used books, of course---thrift stores; garage sales; and the Library book sales--but I want another used bookstore to open up!

However, although I regretted the closings and still do--I purchased a lot of books when the going out of business sales were held, so I am unlikely to run out of books for a while!

I am a slower reader than I used to be since my last eye surgery in 2003---but I am still able to read, praise God!
