Me, too! Sure glad I chose a simple, easy to remember password! :)

Well, Mary, in my case, if you polled friends and family members, the answer would likely come back "or what?" :(

Check the box that says, "Log me on automatically each visit".

God bless,

Joe, it's been checked for years and still is.

Currently I have to login again and again.

Mine, too, has been checked ever since we had to re-register back in '02, when the software was changed.

But like Mary, occasionally I am asked to log in, in spite of having the auto login selected.

Glad to hear that it isn't just me.

I think it's a conspiracy, too Joe. I hadn't had any ads in at least 6 months and in the same day this week, I get the ads back plus the login virus, plus today my smilies went on strike too.

I've been a member for a month ( :) ), and this is the first week I've seen ads.

Somehow they have changed the ads, I had them all blocked for years now they are reappearing

I haven't figured out how to block these adds yet...

Blocking ads reduces revenue to our hosts. Given the massive traffic this forum gets, I'm glad to pay for the bandwidth by seeing the ads.

Auto login is working. I suspect any problems you are having on individual computers are due to your own Internet browser.

You may decide to try any of the following to solve the problem:

Try flushing your cache. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie6 ... cache.mspx
Try deleting your cookies (which will remove auto-login for other sites, so KNOW YOUR PASSWORDS). http://support.microsoft.com/kb/278835
If your'e still using Internet Explorer, switch to Opera or Firefox. http://www.opera.com/browser/download/ or http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/firefox.html

I do all these things regularly except for changing to opera or firefox mozilla. IE has always worked fine for me.

It's just the last few days that I'm having problems...but only on COL.

I tried Firefox Mozilla and Opera a couple of years ago but I couldn't get them to work for me.

Can I have all of them at once so I can compare?

They may work now because this computer is ten times faster and has twice as much memory than my old one.

Mary, Jim,

I am curious. I get logged out not as often as you do but something like every two weeks or so when the auto login does not kick in. But when I click on the login tab, my userid and password are already in place and I just have to click "login". Doesn't that happen for the two of you -- userid and password already in place in their respective boxes.

Joe,

I use Firefox and still see the ads, but I don't mind them, doesn't bother me. I switched to Firefox close to a year after having problems with IE and it is now my default browser and only use IE for some things.

Ian, this is what happens to me. I lose my auto log about as frequently as you do but I do have to log back in and reset the auto log. Apparently, Mary gets logged off more frequently.

Of course, I'm using a Mac and Safari is my browser, so all the Windows users will say "Ah, ha! There's your problem!"

Ian, what you're saying happens to me whenever I clear all my cookies. Even though I'm on automatic login I still have to click 'login' and then not again until I get rid of the new batch of accumulated cookies.

I did solve the problem of the ads, the constant logins, etc. :)

Hi Mary,

That is where the problem is. I believe cookies store all these information. Jeff will be able to confirm this.

I don't clear my cookies often because only me and occasionally trusted family members use my laptop.

Once or twice a day my virus protector catches a 'tracking cookie' and promptly deals with it so I don't delete cookies very often either but I do get rid of history every day because I rarely need anything I visited.

Just a little above "Who is online" it says, "Delete all board cookies".

I was going to do that just to see what happens but I changed my mind for now. :hold:
