Rose,

The change Avatar function seems to be disabled. Sorry for the offtopic.

I see what you mean. Either there's something that has to happen and I forgot what it was, or there's no way to upload a picture from your own PC.

I don't have a way to fix that, myself, so we'll slide the conversation here.

I suspect this coincides with the forum crash a couple of weeks ago. The option to upload an image is not available to anyone. I checked the avatar settings, and avatar uploading is allowed. However, the following description contains an important point I am not able to verify:

Quote:
Avatars are generally small, unique images a user can associate with themselves. Depending on the style they are usually displayed below the username when viewing topics. Here you can determine how users can define their avatars. Please note that in order to upload avatars you need to have created the directory you name below and ensure it can be written to by the web server.

I'm not able to verify if the directory path(s) were created and whether they are able to be written to by the web server. I'm hopeful one of the moderators with ties to the host site administrators can contact them.

I do really hope we get the ability to change our avatars soon. I admit I'm overweight, but that picture overstates the extent of it I think.

Luigi, it apparently isn't too high on the techies priority list.

They may still be coping with some more serious consequences of the hack job.

But I sure am getting tired of looking at last month's snow in my avatar! :)

I just hope they get it fixed by December so I can put on my annual Santa suit.

Luigi,

We moderators are unable to fix the issue. As I wrote before, the option to allow avatar updating is set correctly in the administrators control panel, to which some of us moderators have access. Fabrizio is trying to reach the administrators of the servers that host this site, but it is a very slow process.

Folks the problem has been reported to the proper place, it will get fixed when they get around to it. This Forum while very inmortant to us, is but a small portion of what Catholic Online maintains.

Bumping the thread every day or two will not get any faster fix.

I see Dean has also chimed in.

I will not bump it again.

Well, except for this post, obviously :P

Bit odd that if you have access to Admin panel, that it can't be fixed from there. Is it possible that it might have been set to Allow Visualization of Avatars? (or similar-I haven't done it in quite a while): NO?

Found this for phb Forums. Might help

Quote:
In the Admin CP, open the Server Settings and Optimization Options section and turn on the Public phpinfo() Display Enabled setting

and

Quote:
Do you have avatars enabled in AdminCP > Settings > Options > User picture options > avatars enabled? And then also allow avatars per usergroup in usergroup manager > edit usergroup?

Lou,

See both Dean's and Bob's responses. The last crash threw some things out of whack here. So be patient until we get some kind of news from the administrators of Catholic Online.

Well, I am upset. I had a new avatar to upload and accidentally deleted my old avatar. Now I am lost and it looks like the problem has not been fixed.

Any news?

Patrick,

I almost did what you did. But then I noticed there is no upload facility and abandoned the idea. Yes, once you delete your avatar under the present conditions, you'll lose it.

Am afraid there is no news yet.

A considerable amount of work was done on the Forum today, this problem may be fixed.

Well, it didn't work for me at 5:01 p.m. on 5/15/13, CDT

Not that I'm bothered at all by that. Just thought I'd give it a try.

I'll just keep changing the tiny photo in my signature line until the avatar can be edited again!
