This thread about coffee and other drinks got me thinking about food (It doesn’t take much to stimulate my salivary glands!).

For those of you who, like me, enjoy junk food that tend to bite back a bit, I recommend these corn nuts that my son introduced me to (a perfect example of “The Apple doesn’t fall far from the Tree” theory, poor boy!).

Not really very spicy. But you can liven up just about any junk snack - just dust it with this:

I followed your link and saw where they were using it in Hand Grenades as a weapon.

Yep! … Jalapenòs and habeneròs are pretty mild compared to these puppies!

We used to have a Habanero bush in the yard, till a freeze got it. My wife would eat those puppies for snacks, I showed her that web page and she said no way.

You had a tree that grew Cuban cigars? Where can I get one?

Actually Florida produces some of the best cigars in the world usually Cuban seed, quality fillers and expert wrappers, aged properly. No name cigars or not well known but really good smelling and tasting. Perhaps not Cuban soil, but close.

It seems that bhut jalokias are only the third hottest pepper currently recoginized. There is considerable overlap in the Scoville ratings of the top three, however.

But I do not think it matters very much. I bought some dried bhut jalokias, reconstituted a few in a vinegar pickle and minced one into a (personal) bowl of chili. Yes, it was plenty hot - but I couldn't really tell the difference from doing the same thing with a Caribbean Red, an extra-hot habanero.

Someone sent my wife a gift of some Datil Peppers grown in St. Augustine Florida, plenty hot enough for me.

I should get one for a jar for a friend. I was making a dish for a Christmas potluck that is an adaptation of the dish dirty rice from New Orleans and I mentioned to him that it should be spicy (though not overwhelmingly so) but since I was making it for a potluck, I'd keep it mild. I also mentioned I'd brought some extra spicy to the hot loving medical assistant at my pain man's office and R. had said it was great and made him sweat. So, my friend asked for some to be put aside for extra spiciness and I guess I didn't believe him when he said I couldn't make it too spicy, because despite using three times as much cayenne and black pepper in the dish for his small portion than I did in the portion with 15 cups of rice, 3 pounds of meat and 1 pound of vegetables, he said it was barely spicy for his palette. Must be a genetic thing or something you have from birth because I don't like too much spice (a little spicy is ok) and neither does anyone else in my family.

Just looked at the price, R. and my friend aren't getting some from me anytime soon.
