Sydney's Downing Centre District Court resembles a petting zoo this morning as a man and his goat prepare to face the magistrate.

Gary the Goat was capering about at Circular Quay in August last year when police fined his owner Jim Dezarnaulds $440 for 'destroying vegetation without authority'.

"Four cops approached me and one of them said 'you've broken a whole lot of laws here' and I said 'oh yeah, can you name one,' and then it kind of escalated there," he said.

A Sydney magistrate has dismissed charges against a man whose goat was accused of damaging vegetation at Circular Quay last year.

The courtroom at times erupted into fits of giggles at today's hearing in the Downing Centre.

There is now speculation that an unfortunate mishap outside court may lead Gary to be charged with public urination.
