Here are some photos of this morning's eclipse as viewed from the far north of Queensland.

James,

Nice photos. What is the makeup of the special glasses that make them safe?

Val,

Strength 14 welders' glass, the minimum density that is safe.

The next eclipse to be visible from Australia will be in 2028 - the best place from which to view it will be... Sydney!

I will be 89 . . . not sure I will be up to a trip to the southern hemisphere!

Jim,

If you're swimming it, start now.

Alternatively, on 3 November 2013 you can see one from Nairobi.

I'll be, in theory, 79 but in reality, I'm strongly hoping I'm dead. Maybe I'll go to Nairobi but not sure I want to live until 2013 either.

Val,

Perhaps you should seek professional help.

James,

I get so much professional help and am on so many medications that my pill reminder box makes me look like a dying 90 year old. So, not depressed at all, just in complete despair about my finances an job prospects. Death seems better than homelessness. I know I shouldn't be attached to material things but I'm deeply attached to my little, cute apartment with incredibly low rent and my books and other meager possessions. I really live incredibly simply but it's getting to me that my money is running out and will be completely gone in 4-6 months...if I can keep creditors from getting it. I guess I shouldn't say so much but you're all friends and most people around church have never seen me in a mask and gown.
