But the beer is generally better, the wines are probably about the same. So would I be willing to give up my guns for better beer..........err, no way, I can buy Australian beer here.

Bob,

It would be easier for you to own a gun in Australia than it would for me to own one in America.

(Wines? California has nothing that can compare with Grange.)

Depending on where you lived and your residence status, it might not be a problem at all.

I honestly am not much of a fan of California Wines, I find New York wines to be more to my taste if I am drinking domestic. My real Preference is Portuguese, followed by German and Italian Wines. I have tried some Australian Wines and they were okay, good but not IMO great but I concede that the wines available to the average buyer are probably not the best that are produced.

My dad did business in Portugal and had a connection with a winery there, he would always bring me home a bottle when he made a trip. Some of the best wine I have ever had.

Recently I have been tasting some South American wines, some are pretty good.

But the Australian Beer is top notch.

As I understand it, as an Australian citizen US law forbids that I have a firearm while in the USA.

As a temporary visitor you may not purchase a firearm, you may however rent and use one at a range. As a resident alien, with the appropriate documentation I believe that you could purchase one (but I may be wrong)

I have a small collection of guns, but I have never had to prove I was a US Citizen all I was ever asked for was my drivers license, and if I wished to take the pistol home that day I had to produce my carry license (otherwise it is a 3 day wait). As I sit here typing I think one of the questions on the paperwork was citizenship related, but just don't recall.

Hmmm, think I could convince my wife that was an excuse to buy another gun? Research. I've been looking at a .40 cal.

Ah, of course, you've just reminded me of those two Australian swimmers.

Did you say that California wines cannot compare with Grunge? I have yet to find any Aussie wines that can compare with vintage aged California wines including French wine. Of course it may not be a safe comparison as the imported wines may not travel well. It's the soil that matters. Same with Cuban cigars.

Likewise. (Though a lot of it had to do with the voilent, criminal past of one of the swimmers.)

No.

I'd no idea France was now part of California. Have the French been told?

Soil quality is one factor among many; amount of sunshine, amount of rain... Not least among them, the type of grape.

I recall reading someplace several years ago that the French grape vines fell victim to some root fungus. They now are grafted onto California roots which are resistant to the fungus. Not sure on that, but I think it was a legitimate source.

I think any fruit depends on the grafted branch for its qualities and is independent of the root.

Joe,

The French Wine Blight

As I consume no French Products, now I understand why I dislike California Wine.

You exhibit positive evidence that the maxim "a little knowledge can be dangerous" is alive and well and flourishing in your mind similar to roots from American vines which grow deep.
