A quote from Mather Teresa

Quote:

“We must not drift away from the humble works,
because these are the works nobody will do.
It is never too small.
We are so small we look at things in a small way.
But God, being Almighty, sees everything great.

Therefore, even if you write a letter for a blind man
or you just go sit and listen, or you take the mail for him,
or you visit somebody or bring a flower to somebody
—small things—
or wash clothes for somebody, or clean the house.

Very humble work,
that is where you and I must be.

For there are many people who can do big things.

But there are very few people who will do the small things.”

—Blessed Teresa of Calcutta

Tomorrow we begin the Easter Triduum:
The Last Supper, Good Friday, and the Resurrection of Jesus.

Our final salute to our Saviour today,
is to recall the prophecy of Isaiah (50:4-9)
in yet another "Servant Song".
Take time to read and re-read.
We are re-watching a movie like Mel Gibson's "The Passion,"
or the Passion scenes of "Jesus of Nazareth"...

Mar 30: Easter Saturday "Let’s see each other always new"

Yesterday, after they took him down from the cross,
they buried Him in a tomb ...

Today we wait. Silent in prayer and meditation.
We know and believe in tonight's fire of the Resurrection,
His fire which breaks through every darkness.
Until then, we wait with Him.

All will be new.

We begin to witness to that already today,
by wanting to live the Password:
"Let’s see each other always new"

He is Risen!

Easter Sunday: "Let’s help one another so that the Risen Lord may live in us"

Apr 22: "Be the first to love"

There is always a way,
no matter how difficult or even absurd a situation may become,
to Be the first to love .

In the First Reading (Acts 11:1-18)
God takes the initiative.
God reaches out first, to get Peter to Be the first to love .
In so doing, Peter comes to realise
how big a Plan God has for all of us,
a plan of inclusion, of adoption, of participation in His Holy Spirit.
In that Spirit we conquer everything in our lives,
every addiction, every failure,
every reluctance to live as God wants us to live
and Be the first to love .

Jesus does the same in the Gospel.
He lives the Password to Be the first to love :
"I am the gate of the sheepfold... I am the gate.
Anyone who enters through me will be safe:
such a one will go in and out and will find pasture"
(Jn 10:1-10).
Jesus places Himself as our "filter" so to speak,
so that before anything and everything,
we pass through Him.
We can thus leave behind any refusal to forgive
when confronted by someone,
or let go of any prejudice,
or even adopt a reconciliation as our own.
We can Be the first to love .

News headlines often shock us!
They betray a human nature
that knows how to live today's Password:
Know how to wait ... for revenge, for a justice outside God's,
for the downfall of someone...

But do we Know how to wait to love, to forgive,
to be reconciled, to be at peace?

Paul's enemies from Pisidian Antioch wait
to poison their neighbours against Paul:
despite the miracle in Lystra at the hand of Paul,
and despite wanting to offer sacrifice
to the "gods come down to earth" ,
they "stoned Paul and dragged him outside the town,
thinking he was dead" (Acts 14:19-28).

Amazing how some people will go to the ends of earth
to see that you are not successful.
Why this jealousy? This uncontrollable hatred and envy?
May we never be drawn into that,
and when we witness that in others, pray for them
- heap coals of fire of love upon their heads.
Jesus has already died for them because
"they do not know what they are doing..."

Miraculously Paul survives,
for he Knows how to wait .
He and Barnabas go off to Derbe to begin again:
preaching the Good News and witnessing to a Jesus
risen and glorified...

We must always begin again to fulfill God's Will.
Never give up,
no matter how serious the accusations may be leveled against you,
or how despondent you may become
because of what others may have done to you, or said about you.
Never give up.
Always start again to love,
the way Jesus has loved you.

Know how to wait to love, to forgive, to live the Gospel,
for that is the way to "return home"
as Paul and Barnabas do: they leave Derbe,
visit Lystra, (what a risk!), Iconium and Antioch,
"appointing elders" to supervise the "church" ,
then travel south to Perga, and on to Attalia
to sail home to Antioch in Syria.

The church back home lived the Password:
Know how to wait.
What excitement and joy must have greeted them:
a sense of peace and fulfillment
at having completed the Will of God for the church:
"God had opened the door of faith to the pagans"
through Paul and Barnabas!
They were living the words of Jesus in today's Gospel
(Jn 14:27-31):
"I am doing exactly what the Father told me"
.... because they Know how to wait .

Change the headlines for today!
Know how to wait for forgiving someone,
for being reconciled to another,
to thus have the peace promised by Jesus in the Gospel:
"Peace I bequeath to you, my own peace I give you,
a peace the world cannot give, this is my gift to you."

Know how to wait and be freed!

Tuesday, May 21, 2013 May 21: "Love is an unselfish gift"
Without a doubt, my mother loves unselfishly.

Pope Francis reveals he loves unselfishly.

We believe that God is unconditional love.
We believe, too, that God creates us in God's image and likeness.
Hence we believe that part of the package deal
of being God's creature
is being able to love unconditionally, unselfishly.
What a gift!

This gift to love as God loves
is a gift simply to be able to love unconditionally.
Unconditional love cannot seek anything for itself
- it is totally giving and "unselfish,"
as the Password reminds us today:
Love is an unselfish gift .
