Gerhard's Lenten contribution for today: http://gerhard-hattinghsblog.blogspot.com/

Quote:
Welcome the Word of God with meekness.

David is obedient to the will of God,
repents of his sins of adultery and murder,
and his prayer is heard... (Psalm 51).
David knew how to
Welcome the Word of God with meekness.

Now it is our turn to be obedient to the Will of God.
What "Word of God" needs attention in our lives?
Is it to "love my neighbour as my self"?
Does "forgive 70 x7" need attention in my life?
"The fruits of the Spirit are peace, patience...
kindness, self-control" - am I obedient to those
gifts of God's Spirit?

Today's Gerhard:
Quote:

Believe in the love of God
Saints Joachim and Anne,
parents of Mary, the Mother of Jesus.

God prepared the way for the birth of Jesus.
Not only Mary, his mother, but also her parents
were part of God's Plan of Love to bring the Messiah into the world.

My response?

Firstly, Believe in the love of God .

Secondly, realise I am part of God's Plan of Love!
This may be difficult to identify right now,
but in the broad Plan of things,
ultimately nothing is outside of God's Plan of Love.
Believe in the love of God .

Gerhard: Nourish ourselves with the Word of God

Like an arid landscape in need of water,
Jeremiah is in need of nourishment!

Nourish ourselves with the Word of God .

Jeremiah complains to his mother and to God,
for he is in need of assurance, support and conviction
that what he is is doing is the will of God
(Jer 15:10.16-21).
His being rejected and scorned by Judah
has reached breaking point:
"Why is my suffering continual, my wound incurable,
refusing to be healed."

There are times in our own lives when we feel the same.
Is it worth "doing the Will of God?"
Should I give up my repeated prejudice and judgement of others?
I am tired of "loving" - it only leads to me being exploited,
being taken for granted and used as a floor mat.
Must I always be the one to "keep quiet for the sake of peace"?

Nourish ourselves with the Word of God
because God's answer to Jeremiah is quite clear:
"If you come back, I will take you back ....
I am with you to save you and to deliver you..."

Even when I do not see the bigger picture,
come back to God.
Even when "living the Word of God" seems futile,
come back to God.
Nourish ourselves with the Word of God .

God re-instates his choice of Jeremiah
when Jeremiah has converted himself !
i.e. when he has regained confidence in God's Plan for him
by rejecting those 'rebellious thoughts.'

An excerpt from Gerhard: August 13, 2012

Respect also human laws:

A passion for God emerges in the Readings from the Book of Ezekiel
over the next two weeks (in between the celebration of great Feasts).
The prophet Ezekiel will speak to us through apocalyptic visions
of beasts and fire, wings and colours, storms, clouds and winds!

Saint Theresa of Lisieux spoke of
the "sacrament of the present moment":
each present moment is charged with God communicating with us.
Hence each moment is a "sacrament."

We are in the eighth month of 2012, the thirteenth day,
and each one of us will encounter specific places
during the course of the day, places and situations unique to us.
In terms of Ezekiel's message,
what will God be saying to me today?

Feast of the Assumption of our Blessed Mother...excerpt from todays Gerhard...
http://gerhard-hattinghsblog.blogspot.c ... -word.html

Like someone being given a rose,
humankind is given a "Mystical Rose",
in the person of Mary, the mother of Jesus.

We first read of her in Scripture when she said her "Yes!" to the Angel Gabriel, to become the Mother of God, Incarnate in Jesus.
She was living today's Password:
Believe in the power of God’s Word ,
and in that she is "mystical."

From her place in the Upper Room in Jerusalem at Pentecost,
until today, she continues to
Believe in the power of God’s Word ,
so that "mystically"-speaking, she can be for us a model
of what it means to be "Christian."

Dear Mary,

Thanks for introducing us to your friend Gerhard, and his blog. His entry for today's Feast of the Queenship of Mary is:
Quote:
Wednesday, August 22, 2012
Shape each action on the Word of Life
Whenever we celebrate a feast of Mary, the Mother of Jesus,
like today's, "Mary, Mother and Queen,"
it is to become a better Christian.
Any devotion to this Mother is a door to her Son.
We ask her to pray for us,
and we imitate her in the Scriptures to become more Christ-like.

He is simple and direct. Yes, devotion to Mary is intrinsicto Christian worship, as we read in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 971. Mary leads us to her Son, and we find in her our Mother and Model. Happy Feast of Our Lady, today, to you, Mary, and to everyone!

"Mary, my Queen and my Mother, I am all yours! Keep me; guard me, as your property and possession." (This is a short form of total consecration to Jesus through Mary). For more on St. Louis de Montfort's true devotion see: http://www.ewtn.com/library/montfort/truedevo.htm

Dear Mary,

Thanks for the link. I read it after I had read another commentary on today's Gospel. Both are thought-provoking, but I prefer this one by St. Teresa of Avila because I think I learn more about love and service through prayer:

Wednesday of the Twenty-second week in Ordinary Time
Commentary of the day
Saint Teresa of Avila (1515-1582), Carmelite, Doctor of the Church
The Way of Perfection, ch.24 (©Institute of Carmelite Studies)

"Jesus left and went to a deserted place"

How could we forget the Master who taught us this prayer, and with so much love and desire that it benefit us?... You already know that His Majesty teaches that it be recited in solitude. This is what He always did when He prayed, and not out of any need of His own but for our instruction. It has already been mentioned that one cannot speak simultaneously to God and to the world; this would amount to nothing more than reciting the prayer while listening to what is being said elsewhere or to letting the mind wander and making no effort to control it.

There can be exceptions at times, either because of bad humors - especially if the person is melancholic - or because of faint feelings in the head so that all efforts become useless. Or it can happen that God will permit days of severe temptation in his servants for their greater good. And though in their affliction they are striving to be quiet, they cannot even be attentive to what they are saying, no matter how hard they try; nor will the intellect settle down in anything, but by the disordered way it goes about, it will seem to be in a frenzy. Whoever experiences the affliction these distractions cause will see that they are not his fault... Like a sick person he should strive to bring some relief to his soul; let him occupy himself in other works of virtue. This advice now is for persons who are careful and who have understood that they must not speak simultaneously to both God and the world.

What we ourselves can do is to strive to be alone; and please God it will suffice, as I say, that we understand to whom we are speaking and the answer the Lord makes to our petitions. Do you think He is silent? Even though we do not hear Him, He speaks well to the heart when we beseech Him from the heart.

Maria, if that's where God called you then that's definitely where He wants you.

The charism of the Focolare is Unity and Charity. Ours is a Trinitarian spirituality..."I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13: 34-35

In a sense, we are called to re-live Mary by bringing Jesus to the World.

Mary

Dear Mary,

All are called to holiness. I agree with you that holiness comes to us through Mary. God's Will to bring all of us back to Him, sent Jesus through Mary in the Incarnation; and He continues to send every grace through her to the end of time. In preferring one commentary to another, I was trying to point out the necessity of coming to know Christ truly before we can love or serve truly. Perhaps I was remembering the order of words in the Baltimore Catechism: " God made us to know Him, love Him and serve Him...". I am also mindful of the words of Jesus in the Gospel:

Mat 7:21 - 23 "Not every one who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?' And then will I declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from me, you evildoers.' "

Prayer is like oxygen for any follower of Christ. If we do not come to know Him, and allow Him to know us, than we run the risk of doing without Him; i.e. loving and serving only by our own natural instincts; and according to our own will. Saints help us to see more clearly God's Will, as they lived and wrote about their relationship with Him. Prayer as St. John Mary Vianney wrote is "nothing other than union with God." St. Teresa is a Doctor of the Church because her teaching is universal. It is not merely for Carmelites, but her gifts (like those of Chiara Lubich) are intended to enrich the entire Church. All true Movements and true spirituality ultimately leads us to the Trinity and loving union with one another.

As Jesus lovingly told Martha that she was too busy about many things, and pointed her to the one thing necessary, so I think we need to be careful that we learn in prayer, God's Will for us : our sanctification. I believe Martha learned to serve truly when she began do do as her sister Mary had chosen to do: sit at the feet of Jesus and learn from Him how to love and to serve. Our Blessed Mother is the model disciple. In her we see a "contemplative in action". At Cana, she shares what she learned in prayer and directs the other servants: "Do whatever He tells you".

Gerhard's blog is good and his commentary is good; certainly love seeks to serve. I wanted to add St. Teresa's words for anyone who may not have realized the danger there can be in in simply "thinking we love" or "thinking we are serving lovingly" without having a true union with God. Does that clarify it somewhat? I had the feeling that you thought my preference had to do with my own spirituality only.

Today's Gerhard reminds me of "as I have loved you, so also must you love one another".

I think the little boy has understood that very deeply.

From Gerhard:

Simple Password today.
Show love to the poor .

And there are many ways of showing love
- not just providing handouts.
Accept, however, that where handouts are needed,
we are needed to hand out.

No, there are many more "poor" around us:
emotionally, spiritually, psychologically,
in a "not good" relationship or "not good" space right now...

There's more here:

Simon, I've been reading Gerhard's blog every day for about a year now.

There's always something that helps me live the Word of God a little better.

Gerhard is a Priest of the Work of Mary [Focolare] and he lives in South Africa...are you anywhere near there?

No No I am in the middle of India.Foreign priests are not allowed to work for long periods(Forigners Act?) here, thank God for the Grace of the Internet.Otherwise I would be condemned to be ignorant about The Faith.

Simon, I understand from personal experience how that feels.

However, I did find a Focolare in India; if this is not close enough to visit you could contact them and they'll be able to give you the information you might need:

Excerpt from Saturday, Nov 24: "Do not tire in loving"

Quote:
"Do not tire in loving"

In the First Reading (Apoc 11:4-12),
Saint John has a vision echoing the Old Testament's characters
Elijah and Moses (the two folk who stood on either side of Jesus
at the Transfiguration): Elijah brought down "fire" from heaven,
and recently we read how he "locked up the sky"
so that there was no rain;
and Moses called down plagues upon Egypt before the Exodus.
It was their love for God,
and a passion for His Word being fulfilled in the people,
that prompted these men thousands of years ago
to be identified with the prophet Zechariah's
"two olive trees and the two lamps
in attendance on the Lord of the world."

What lengths am I prepared to go to
so that I Do not tire in loving the way God wants me to love?

I would trust that just about all of us, if not all, have had experiences such as Father Gerhard is sharing with us today.

Quote:
Do those who have passed on visit us?

It occurs to me that sometimes our friends who have died
'return' to our minds, hearts and souls in the strangest of ways.
Expressing this differently, we often encounter situations
which revive within us wonderful memories
of people who are no longer with us
- as if they 'return' by way of association or event.

In two days, two priests have 'returned'
to remind me that God is Love.

Monday last I posted a tribute to my friend, Fr. Lionel Sham,
on my Facebook Page, after watching the SATV documentary
on his murder.
What came surging back into mind was not the horror of his death,
but rather the privilege of priesthood,
all those rewarding aspects of a life lived for service,
about priesthood as being totally in God
in order to give to the people ... no matter what.
It was as if Lionel "visited" me, like an angel with a message.
He continues to show that Love is service to others ...
no matter what.

Secondly, this morning, I was searching
for pictures on the Internet for this Blog!
When I save a pic, usually "My Pics" opens immediately
and I can choose a "Folder" to file it away.
This morning, however,
"My Pics" did not open when I clicked "Save." Instead,
what did open was a window with one of my nicknames!
That nickname was a favourite for me, used by a priest-friend
of the Focolare in Rome, Don Silvano:
as if Silvano "visited" me, like an angel with a message.
He continues to show that Love is service to others .

I love these flashes - from a pic, a newspaper headline,
a face in the crowd, a sunset, the formation of clouds ...
They are like angels visiting us,
or, if you don't believe in 'visiting angels,'
each one is a stimulus to an electronic impulse in the brain
to live today's Password afresh: Love is service to others !

Two mountains rise up before us in today's Readings:
Isaiah's symbolic mountain in eternity,
and secondly, a mountain above the Sea of Galilee in Jesus' Palestine.

Isaiah tells us (25:6-10) that God makes a promise
such that today's Password is even a reality for God -
Be concrete in practicing charity:
"On this mountain, for all peoples, Yahweh Sabaoth
is preparing a banquet of rich food, a banquet of fine wines,
of succulent food, of well-strained wines."

God promises a banquet which is a symbol of everlasting life,
containing the guarantee that death will be destroyed forever.
The place? "... this mountain..." ,
reaching into Heaven itself.

"Know how to dialogue"
Our liturgy in Advent is filled with prophecies of a promised Messiah -
the prophets are 'dialoguing' with us!

What is our lived reality of interpreting those prophecies?
- that's how we dialogue with them.

Quote:
Dec 08: "Value the positive qualities in your neighbour"
The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Gospel for today (Lk 1:26-38) is the first time we encounter Mary in Scripture. God chose her, for she “won God’s favour” to be especially chosen as the mother of God Incarnate. We are being taught to look at her, see her 'positive qualities,' and live today's Password with everyone:
Value the positive qualities in your neighbour .

God applied the Password to Mary.
We are invited to do the same - and not only to Mary,
but to every neighbour we meet today.

Mary acknowledged those "positive qualities"
when she appeared to Bernadette in the small village of Lourdes
in the south of France and provided the young girl with her title:
“I am the Immaculate Conception,”
i.e. I am the one who was especially chosen
to give birth to the Messiah
and hence I was immaculately conceived.

Each of us has "won God's favour"
because Jesus died for each of us.

Each of us has a "title"
i.e. we were conceived with a purpose.
No one is an accident.

My chief purpose is to continue the work of Mary:
to give birth, spiritually, to Jesus.
Jesus said,
"Where two or more are united in my name, I am there"
(Mt 18:20).
To live that unity is to live in love.
To live in Love is to live God's Word, which is Love.
And when I live that Word in unity with others,
what a Presence of Jesus that will be!

I begin with the Password:

Value the positive qualities in your neighbour
for then there is unity in the name of Jesus and he will be there!

Value the positive qualities in your neighbour
and continue the work of Mary in your family,
amongst your friends, with everyone you meet today.

Stay blessed.

Fr. Gerhard:

http://gerhard-hattinghsblog.blogspot.c ... ut-of.html

Quote:
When David Beckham visited South Africa in 2009
for the draw of the World Cup Soccer,
he is quoted as saying "Nothing is guaranteed,
I have discovered that is true in my career.”

In the context of World Cup soccer,
yes, "nothing is guaranteed"!

But we have another game to play in this life:
the “game” of John the Baptist
which is to prepare a way for Jesus to be born in us
again, this Christmas.
However, for this to happen
in the inevitability of yet another 25 December Christmas,
I believe “nothing is guaranteed” about a re-birth of Jesus
in you and me, until we begin to play our part.

The Readings from this Second Week of Advent
suggest how we can play our part:
Let's be part of the fulfillment of the prophecies
from Baruch (5:1-9) and Isaiah (40:3-5)
quoted by Saint Luke in his Gospel (3:1-6)
and licit prayers from Saint Paul (Phil 1: 3-6. 8-11)
for "joy" in our lives, and in the lives of those
whom God has sends to us.

Writing of John the Baptist,
Saint Luke describes him as
"A voice of one calling in the wilderness."
Our life, or the lives of some people we know,
can be a "wilderness" at times...
Let us be a voice of hope, of healing, of rescue
because we want to live today's Word
and live today's Password:
Don’t think of yourself but of others .

John's message is that we must play our part
for the arrival of the Messiah
so that ultimately "all people will see God’s salvation" .

When I am consumed by doubts, irreconcilable differences,
anger and confusion,
the best way to begin playing my part is
Don’t think of yourself but of others .
They need rescue!
And it is in rescuing others that we are rescued:

Someone wrote, “When you help someone up the hill,
you reach the top yourself” ;

“When you seek to discover the best in others,
you bring out the best in yourself.”
Don’t think of yourself but of others .

"Prepare the way for the Lord,
make straight paths for him.
Every valley shall be filled in,
every mountain and hill made low.
The crooked roads shall become straight,
the rough ways smooth."

Our love for one another, listening to one another,
encouraging and animating one another
fills in those "valleys"
and lays low those "mountains" of life:
those depressions and challenges, moments of emptiness
and obstacles, fear and awe.
We can face them, by helping others face them.
We can overcome them by accompanying each terrified friend
trying to overcome them.
Don’t think of yourself but of others .

Saint Paul lives the Password:
he ignores the fact he is in prison, and writes to the Philippians,
"Every time I pray for you all, I always pray with joy
for your partnership in the gospel from the very first day
up to the present... it is my prayer that
your love for one another may grow more and more
with the knowledge and complete understanding
that will help you to come to true discernment,
so that you will be innocent and free of any trace of guilt
when the Day of Christ comes,
entirely filled with the fruits of uprightness through Jesus Christ,
for the glory and praise of God."

How about eliciting prayers from Saint Paul in heaven:
prayers of joy for all of us!

"Nothing is guaranteed" in the game of soccer.
But we have another game to play in this life:
the “game” of John the Baptist!
Let's facilitate a "guarantee" of Jesus being born
again in us this Christmas,
by helping others prepare such a way for themselves!
Begin with today's Password:
Don’t think of yourself but of others .

Stay blessed!

Quote:
Dec 18: "Be perfect in loving"
Saint Joseph in the Gospel (Mt. 1:18-24),
certainly does live today's Password :
Be perfect in loving .
In the face of a threatening divorce
because he finds Mary is pregnant,
he changes his mind in order to Be perfect in loving .
He accepts the message of the Angel Gabriel
and takes Mary home...

Let's risk "taking Mary home":
to read about her in the Scriptures, to live the Word she lived,
and so to give birth, spiritually speaking, to Jesus,
the one who saves.
Then when your friends and family encounter you, think of you,
listen to you, or speak to you, they are in the presence
of one who is "giving birth" to Jesus,
or, as in the words from Jeremiah today (23:5-8),
they are in the presence of one
who frees them from from any "slavery" in life
resulting in an exile from the love of God.

What a responsibility!

But that's the best way today to Be perfect in loving .

First, let's be free ourselves, so we can Be perfect in loving .
What are you slave to? What exile have you landed in?
Are you secure in your own territory,
or is someone emotionally blackmailing you to his or hers?
These words become metaphors of what causes us
to “get stuck on the wheel of life,” and we cant move forward.
We cry out, "God is Love ...out there, but not for me.”

But we are preparing to celebrate the birth of Jesus!

Let today be a welcoming of the Mother of Jesus
into your home, your heart, your mind, your soul,
like Saint Joseph,
so that we can Be perfect in loving .

Learn from her as she appears in the infancy narratives in Scripture,
from the time of the Annunciation until the Birth of her son.

She said “yes” to the Holy Spirit at the Annunciation.
Repeat your “yes” to the Holy Spirit of your Baptism,
your Confirmation.

She said “yes” to forgetting herself
and sharing her Good News with her cousin Elizabeth.
What Good News can you share
that will result in a member of your family or a friend
“being filled with the Holy Spirit” - just as Elizabeth was,
upon hearing the arrival of Mary into her home?
For that, you will have to "forget yourself,"
go beyond yourself and your opinions, your prejudice ...

She said “yes” to “no room in the inn,”
and now she awaits your heart as a new manger for her Son. ...
Or is there no room in that inn too?

She said “yes” to giving birth to the Messiah.
Give birth to the same Messiah, spiritually,
“when two or more are united in my name,
I am there in their midst” (Mt. 18:20).
With whom do I still need to be united to in Jesus’ name?

And in this way prepare to be blessed again this Christmas,
because in becoming another Mary
we are able to Be perfect in loving .

Mary

Quote:

In my life as a priest,
one encounters many women who are truly blessed.
Their husbands provide a haven, a home,
a heart to experience a blessedness.

In today’s Gospel (Lk 1:39-45),
Luke tells us that Mary is pronounced thrice blessed
by her cousin Elizabeth:
“Of all women you are the most blessed;”
“blessed is the fruit of your womb”; and
“blessed is she who believed that the promise
made her by the Lord would be fulfilled.”

Mary was chosen.
But so are you:
* you are alive - to live today, here on earth.
Mary is blessed.
But so are you:
* You have faith, or you would not be reading this Blog
to help deepen that faith.
* You have hope, or you would not gather the Word of God
into your heart and soul to find solace, comfort,
and strength for the journey of life.
* You have love, no matter how wounded,
or you would not want a newborn Jesus
to enter your life afresh this Christmas:
because Jesus is the Incarnation of Divine Love.
Like Mary, you are "blessed."

The Church “links” this text
with an extract from The Song of Songs, The Song of Solomon,
which speaks of a groom:
“I hear my Beloved. See how he comes
leaping on the mountains, bounding over the hills.
My Beloved is like a gazelle, like a young stag”
(2:8-14).

Christ is the groom, and we, the church, are his bride.
God's love for us is as total, profound,
and passionate as the love of a groom for his chosen bride.

Let's acknowledge and enjoy that "belovedness."
Let's expose a gratitude for being "blessed"
in our lifestyle and every relationship
and show in these last few days before Christmas that it's true!
- “you are the most blessed,”
for you are the receptacle of God’s Love
in the mystery of life and death, and joy and sorrow.
Show it when the “fruit of your womb” is blessed
with “fruit” made visible with the gifts of the Holy Spirit,
which, when lived out,
symbolically turns your heart into a manger for the Newborn Babe.

Recall those gifts described by Saint Paul as
“love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, tolerance,
forgiveness, self-control…”.
That's why the Password for today is:
Let’s love with deeds .

You are chosen.
You are "blessed."
Is the bride ready?
Let’s love with deeds .

Stay blessed.

Mary

Want the angels to sing from on high?
Simple, really: produce cascades of mutual love around you
- like this BBC pic of Iguassu Falls.
Notice the "mutual love" between rock, river and robust vegetation
producing spectacular cascades!
Let’s render the Lord present among us
through our mutual love

The angels want to sing out and proclaim
that the best Christmas gift we can give to each other
is Jesus.

Let’s render the Lord present among us
through our mutual love

Jesus heals, Jesus inspires, Jesus animates, Jesus teaches...

Let’s render the Lord present among us
through our mutual love

It is mutual love which generates the presence of Jesus amongst us:
"When two or more are united in my love,
I am there in their midst," promises Jesus (Mt 18:20).

Let’s render the Lord present among us
through our mutual love

Christ-mas - let's share in the mission
("-mas" from the Latin "missio", meaning "mission")
of Christ,
by making him present amongst us:
our family, our friends, wherever we are called to be.
Give birth to him wherever you are,
whatever circumstances challenge you right now.
And give that newborn Jesus as your Christmas gift
to everyone you meet today - either in their presence,
or in thought, or via a media connection.

We give the Gift through mutual love.

Let’s render the Lord present among us
through our mutual love

The very angels will be singing
"Gloria in Excelsis Deo"
when we do!

Quote:
Let’s entrust ourselves to God’s mercy .

This stunning pic of baby Tyla Jade Pullin
is just what I need to face the end of 2012
and anticipate a grand 2013!

When looking ahead into a new year,
in fact into any unknown, is to become childlike,
and adopt today's Password:
Let’s entrust ourselves to God’s mercy .

Yep! The First Reading has it on record alright:
"Children, these are the last days”
(1 Jn 2: 18-21).
No panic!
It’s pure reality and common sense, surely,
in this gift of temporal time which must pass?
Let’s entrust ourselves to God’s mercy .

A new year wants to dawn on our consciousness,
a new chance to live His promised fullness
(Jn 10:10).
Let’s entrust ourselves to God’s mercy .

Singing "Auld Lang Syne" could be one way to respond
to the Psalm's invitation, “O sing a new song to the Lord” .
But it ain't new!
What is new, is to approach 2013 with a faith-filled determination
in living the Password:
Let’s entrust ourselves to God’s mercy .

Now, you become that “new song”
for the new year about to dawn on us.
Make these words of the Responsorial Psalm your own
when you apply the Password today:
“Let the heavens rejoice and earth be glad,
let the sea and all within it thunder praise,
let the land and all it bears rejoice,
all the trees of the wood shout for joy
at the presence of the Lord for his comes…”

Amongst members of your family, your friends,
in fact everyone you will meet or think of today,
your words can “thunder praise” like the sea;
your actions can express a “rejoicing”
like “the land and all it bears” ;
your thoughts can “shout for joy”
like “all the trees of the wood”
when you take the Gospel to heart,
mentally prepare to assimilate its values and live them out,
and use the Password as a first step:

Let’s entrust ourselves to God’s mercy .

Stay blessed ending 2012, and welcoming 2013.

Jan 02: "Always live in love"
Become a "John the Baptist" today:
"I am, as Isaiah prophesied:
A voice of one that cries in the desert:
Prepare a way for the Lord. Make his paths straight!"
(Jn 1:19-28)
That "way" is an unconditional love
to the point of the cross.
Always live in love .

John baptised with water...

- be refreshing waters over others,
giving them a chance to begin again to love in their lives
because they see how you are able to love unconditionally.
Always live in love .

Be water that washes clean
- removing past hurts, regrets, guilt and betrayals
in the hearts of those around you,
because the reality of a Jesus reborn in you
gives you the power to do that in your own heart and soul first.
I am healed and washed clean when I refuse to focus on myself
and I empty myself of self so as to focus on the other
- then I can Always live in love .

Be water through your talents and God-given grace
to satisfy the "thirst" of the other
who "thirsts" for respect, enlightenment, forgiveness,
encouragement and a chance to begin again.
Always live in love .

Then the splash will begin to cover the earth around you
and today's Psalm (97) will begin to be real
for those around you:
"All the ends of the earth have seen
the salvation of our God."

Always live in love .

Stay blessed.

Quote:
"Let everyone know of God’s light" EPIPHANY ... Mt 2:1-12 We know the story:
three “wise men” from the East follow a star for two years. They reach Jerusalem, the capital (after all that is where the "king" should be!) and inquire of the present king, King Herod, what? where? when? It's all in the Scriptures... only these pagan wise men will believe. So they head for Bethlehem. At the manger they present gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh -gold for a king, frankincense for a priest, and myrrh for a prophet). Overjoyed, these three wise men, the Magi, three kings, return home by a different route...

Let's make this event our own!
Let everyone know of God’s light

Firstly, now that the newborn Jesus has made His home in you,
which "star" are you following?
Is that “star” continuously/ultimately leading you to Christ?
Like the three wise men in Jerusalem, check the Scriptures
to confirm your choice of “star” is the correct one....
Let everyone know of God’s light

Secondly, make these gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh your own,
and present them to Jesus:

** gold is a sign of love: whom do I need to love more,
the way Jesus would love them?
A king makes decisions.
Which decisions to love as Jesus loves
need to be implemented in my life more intensely?

** frankincense is a symbol of prayer, a deeper prayer-life:
how can I intensify my prayer-life
so that I am freer from condemning others
in order to be freer to love?
A priest is a man of prayer...
How can I participate more sincerely
in the Priesthood of Christ in me?

** myrrh is ointment from a special tree
under which a prophet would admonish, advise
and advance God’s cause within the signs of the times.
Which "signs of the times" needs more attention from me
so that I forgive, advise, encourage and instil hope,
like a prophet for Christ?

“Epiphany” comes from the Greek for "to manifest" or "to show."
Let everyone know of God’s light

Let's go show we have three gifts to offer the newborn Jesus in us,
gold, frankincense and myrrh,
because we have made them our own.
Then we will live the Password:
Let everyone know of God’s light .

Stay blessed!

We know the story:
three “wise men” from the East follow a star for two years

The priest said at his Homily that"the wise men had to search" and that the "star left them" in other words they had to struggle- is this the common experience? Everyone faces a struggle and has to walk an uncharted path sometimes?

Sounds good to me, Simon...they had to stop several hours to sleep, and two years is quite a long time. :o

Sounds like me and everyone I ever met!

"I get by with a little help from my friends..."
Remember this song by the Beatles?

We treasure friendships.
People enter our lives and we are enthralled, inspired
and challenged, as much as we enthrall, inspire and
challenge others.

We have much to give in life,
and often friendship creates those very opportunities to give.
We offer our talents, our personality, our unique abilities,
symbolised in today's Gospel (Mk 6:34-44) by
"five loaves and two fish."

When our motive is to love as Jesus loves,
then the "Good Shepherd" multiplies their effects
in other people's lives.

Saint John, the "beloved" knew the essence of that Love:
"My dear people, let us love one another
since love comes from God
and everyone who loves is begotten by God
and knows God ... because God is love."

This is a love taken to the point of the Cross,
rather than anything sentimental or superficial.
It is loving as Jesus loved,
and releases that Love of the risen Christ
into each situation we find ourselves in.

Make it a day for renewing friendships ...
including family friendships
and especially friends
whom you have not contacted for a while...

Stay blessed.
