Always enjoyable, but I have to give props to Michigan. Frankly I didn't think they had a chance. But it was nail biter all the way even if South Carolina won in the end.

Good game.

BTW, The president of Outback Restaurants said before the game, that in honor of todays game, a Free Blooming Onion would be given to all customers tomorrow if SC Won, it was some other appitizer if Mich won.

Obviously not happy with the results, but I'm glad it was competitive.

One of the better games I saw all year. I didn't have a horse in the race so I didn't really care but honestly was surprised how well Michigan did.

I used to enjoy it too! The bloomin' onion has become a lot smaller for some reason. I can't imagine it's because the onions have gotten smaller. :)

Now it's a once per year occasion, for just me and my wife.

The original Outback Steak House is about a mile from where I sit, we used to be fairly regular customers, back when we were both employed, but then the restaurant chain took off and the crowds came, and I stopped going. These days if I want a Steak house it's either Cody's or Longhorn, with Longhorn getting the edge.

Bob,

Outback is still king of the chain steakhouses, IMO. We won't eat at any of the other chains, despite having tried them all. They just don't measure up. On the rare occasion we do enjoy Outback, we use the drive-in feature and eat at home. It saves on the beverage charge. :)

Wrong term on my part... The term they use is "take-away." You call in your order and then drive to the restaurant. You park in a "take-away" lane, a waiter or waitress comes out to the car and takes your name, they bring the order to your car and take payment, you give them a tip (at least we do), and you drive away. :) If the restaurant is close to home, it's a very nice option. My wife and I hate crowds too!

For chains, I think Longhorn is better than Outback.

For even better chains, you can't go wrong with Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. But it will cost you.

I agree, but don't care for Ruth Chris, value doesn't equal price.

We sometimes use the "Carside To-Go" or similar at one or two of the chain restaurants - Applebee's, Ninety-Nine's.

Honestly, I have trouble thinking of Outback or most of them as a steakhouse. Most of the major national or regional chains have the "Generica" menu with some nominal element of identity/environment flavor or specialty ("Mexican", "Australian", Canadian wilderness, pizza, sea food, "Italian", what-have-you...). They all feature some steaks, but...

Longhorn? More of a steakhouse than the rest, I suppose. I've eaten there and they're pretty good, but for some reason they never leave me with any particular motivation to anticipate coming again.

For me, the chains have to a certain extent played out, and some of them we just don't go to anymore.

We're fortunate that we have some really good steak houses around, not really of the chain variety (not the mass-market Generica variety, anyway). Also, we have a variety of types of places, and some good or excellent independent restaurants.
