Thought we had a thread on this, but can't find it.

Today a document, prepared by two priests loyal to Bishop Morris, Father Peter Schultz, the diocese's judicial vicar, and Fr. Peter Dorfield, former vicar general of the diocese, was released giving the history of this case.

Quote:
...The new document confirms that the Vatican removed the bishop for flagrant abuses in the celebration of the Sacrament of Penance and for advocating women's ordination to the priesthood.

Leaked to the Australian press, the confidential document offers a unique glimpse into the workings of the Vatican's disciplinary process.

It also reveals that the bishop's sacking was the conclusion of a long and sometimes tense back-and-forth with the Vatican - and not the consequence of a sudden decision, as the Australian bishop suggested in a letter last week.

The document, entitled "Summary History of Bishop Morris' dispute with the Roman Dicasteries" is an addendum to a seven-page defense of Bishop Morris that was sent April 29 to priests, leaders and the head of Christian denominations in the Toowoomba region....

This is supposedly in his defense. I don't see a need for a prosecution.

Well, we haven't seen the actual letter. What we know is EWTN's version of what is in the letter. Which I tend to trust, and have little doubt that this was the correct decision.

Actually EWTN just supplied a reprint from Catholic News Agency.

Oh. Then I'm not so sure...;)

I have been following this story. I am interested in how well this is being accepted by those in Australia? I am also absolutely certain the Vatican has done the right thing, and I only wish it could have been done sooner! But I believe the Pope has made every effort to get Bishop Morris to turn in the right direction.

Well you could check Father Z's WDTHRS:

For a change, a Catholic media agency’s look at the tumult in Toowoomba

FLASH: Fr. Z agrees with Bp. Morris and NCR… yes and no.

Australian analysis of the Toowoomba Tumult. Fr. Z muses.

Observations on the Toowoomba Tumult. Fr. Z rants.

NCR’s attack on Pope Benedict

Australian bishop removed from diocese for heterodox ideas

I suspect that you can get much more with a simple Google search.

It was sarcastic, Joe. I don't distrust Catholic News Agency, and have followed this story pretty closely.

Sorry - I was a little slow on the uptake.

Hope the Father Z links were useful to someone.

UPDATE:

http://press.catholica.va/news_services ... =en#NOMINA DEL VESCOVO DI TOOWOOMBA (AUSTRALIA)

The troubled diocese has a new sheperd. He comes from a Canon Law background. I don't know anything about him beside what's in the brief Vatican.va bio, but I suspect that it takes courage to throw yourself into a situation like that, and that H. E. could use some prayerful support.

His Lordship will certainly have mine.
