If you can't read it, it says Alligator is determined to be from the fish family, and is not meat therefore okay to eat on days of Abstinence.

Frankly, I always thought Lizards regardless of size were meat. I know of a resturant locally that serves Alligator, I'll have to see if 'gator is on the seafood list or Meat list.

It's gone from your post above, Bob, but I saw it on somebody's FB page, so here it is:

Bob,
What about turtles, otters, and elephant seals? Are they also fish?

Which reminds me of a story. It seems that Fr. Solanus encountered a traveling Catholic couple who ran out of food on their journey. It was a Friday of Lent and the only thing left in their ice box was a couple of hotdogs floating in melted ice.

The story goes that Fr. Solanus blessed the hotdogs and proclaimed them "fish."

Strange. All I see is a white box and "this photo is currently unavailable" in the middle of it.

That's what I see too.

As I remember, meat includes only the flesh of warm blooded critters. I think that includes only mammals and birds.

Yes, no and no.

No manatees, either!

Crawdads are okay, though!

Bob, I've had deep-fried alligator on a few occasions and liked it.

I had gator on a visit to St. Augustine in 2008, during Labor Day weekend. I don't remember exactly what it tasted like, but I also don't remember retching in disgust, so it couldn't have been too bad. :)

Zoom to alligator ..... "No! It is I who will eat YOU!"

I put gators in the category of regional "delicacy" like Rocky Mountain Oysters" which I also do not eat. I have had Moose, Elk and Deer and of those I prefer Moose although Navajo Tacos with venison Elk chili are pretty good.
