I love hockey and follow the Penguins here in Pittsburgh. I am not so sure about Bob C. I have the feeling that his regard for hockey is less than you or I have but I could be wrong. I know he is a great fan of our national pastime. The Pittsburgh Pirates had another season where there was a beam of light for their immediate future but for whatever reason, it faded once again. This town wants and desperately needs a pennant winning team. Money needs to be spent to attract more players like McKutchen. It seems as though the Pirates team is a training ground for the rest of the league.
Oh for the great Pirate Teams of days gone by, Willie Stargell and Company, I have a great story about those '79 Pirates and a game I attended while stationed in New York.

It was toward the end of the season, the Prates were locked in the Pennant race, the Mets were in their usual last place. I wanted to go to the ball game but no one else was interested in going, my wife had plans etc. So I asked my buddy's Daughter to come she was a young teenager and had a crush on one of the Mets players.
So off we go, I get us decent tickets and we wind up sitting behind a large group of women, it was a wild game, seemingly with someone scoring every time they swung a bat. Final score was something like 16-15 Pirates. Anyhow every time Monica and I would yell and cheer for a Mets score, all the women would turn and give us dirty looks.
Finally one of them says give us a break, we want to go to the World Series, you guys are in last place. Turns out they were the wives of the Pirate players and some very nice ladies. I teased them about never giving up on my "Home Team" they tried to bribe us! They sent a club house guy down to get us some Pirate stuff, I declined but thanked them. Monica wound up with all sorts of stuff including an autographed baseball (not stamped) of the entire team. Wish I had that now an autographed baseball from the 79 world series champs. What a fun day at the ball park, and spent in some delightful company.
Regarding NHL Hockey, living as I do now in the South it seems silly, it's a winter sport played on ice. I actually enjoy the game of Hockey, I played (sandlot) as a kid on the frozen lake, went to many an Islander game, but somewhere along the line I got tired of the fighting and just stopped following the game. I still watch Olympic Hockey where the fighting is much more controlled.
