I am sorry

to put this question here but I was not sure where it should be. and I need an answer.
Recently in a discussion, a friend of mine of greater knowledge than me, mentioned that St Paul is on of the 12 Apostles.

From my searching I find that there were 12.
I was taught were:
1. Peter:
2. Andrew:
3. James the Son of Zebedee:
4. John
5 Philip:
6. Bartholomew:
7. Thomas:
8. Matthew
9. James the Son of Aphaeos:
10. Thaddeus (or Jude the brother of James):
11. Simon the Zealot:
12. Matthias: ( selected to replace Judas)
My friend with theological background referred to St Paul as an Apostle. I have read that St Paul is often called " the Apostle of the Gentiles but does that make him one of the original 12 ? Then if he is, there would be 13 Apostles?

( No way!!)
Help please
In truth, I am the uneducated and ignorant
and unworthy
