I didn't want to have to start another thread, because it IS a question directed TO Eastern Orthodox about their beliefs. I have three questions:
1) I've read in other websites from Eastern Catholics that they don't feel they have given up much, if anything at all, of their Eastern spirituality and traditions in having communion with Rome.
From an Eastern Orthodox perspective, are Eastern Catholics simply fooling themselves? Are the Eastern Orthodox Hierarchy simply being petty? Is there a middle ground? I guess, what I am really asking is what did the Eastern Catholics do that makes the Eastern Orthodox hate them so much. It seems to me that the Eastern Catholics took the way of peace - Christ's way - so I don't understand how Eastern Orthodox can hate them for that. If the Orthodox response has ANYTHING to do with nationality, how justified is that response in light of Jesus' teachings?
I would really appreciate an answer to this latter question.
2) I understand that relations between the Oriental Orthodox and the Catholic Church are pretty good. I have even heard of special dispensations being given regarding communion between individual Churches in the two traditions. If the Oriental Orthodox and the Catholic Church ever achieve full communion, will the Eastern Orthodox look at them with the same kind of jaundiced eye that the Eastern Catholics are looked upon? Or are Oriental Orthodox regarded as existing under different circumstances?
3) I read in this site that Maronites never considered themselves as ever having been cut off from Rome. What do Eastern Orthodox think about groups which would normally be in the jurisdiction of ORIENTAL Orthodoxy and have joined with Rome? Do they feel the same animosity towards them as towards Eastern Catholics?
Thank you for your time and God bless you.
