Let us pray that this actually happens.

Pope Benedict to visit Patriarch Bartholomew

And that the two lungs will breath together again.

On a related matter, is the Greek Orthodox Church in communion with Rome? I don't think it is but want to be sure.

That was all over our news this morning as the patriarch is visiting this area. Prayers that this will be fruitful.

This is outstanding news. Let's all pray that unity between both churches is closer at hand!

I've read the article and I must say it is music to my ears. Christian Ecumenism must be a goal for our generation and future ones. To reunite the catholic (western) and orthodox (eastern) churches is something very meaningful and beautiful. :D

I pray that this can happen!

I especially enjoyed reading this, as it comforts my heart:

Both the current patriarch and the current pope appear deeply committed to bridging the rift between their estranged churches and helping to unite two of the largest branches of Christianity.

"The commitment of the Catholic Church to the search for Christian unity is irreversible," the pope said in June.

What a powerful sign of hope.

I am sceptical, but I would like to be wrong.
