Greetings, all,

OK, I know this wasn't supposed to become a bazaar, but I am looking for a replica of the icon Patriarch Athenagoras gave to Pope Paul VI.

It is:

I wish to start praying to both Andrew and Peter. Andrew is obvious, Peter becomes more obvious, esp. since I was born on one of his feast days!

Andy - You might try The Printery House [www.printeryhouse.org]. It isn't in their current catalogue, but sometimes they have things that are not in the catalogue.

That's really cool that the Patriarch would give a Pope that. If anybody's confused, St. Peter is representative of the Pope, and St. Andrew is representative of the Patriarch of Constantinople. It's in debate whether the Patriarch has any claim to be a Successor of St. Andrew, but if he believes that he is, then that icon is a nice gesture.

Andy,

You can also check a Greek Orthodox website. They might have links to stores that sell icons.

I didn't know that, thanks.

Try contacting:

The Patristic Society
206 Sarles Lane
Pleasantville NY 10570

I know they have had prayer cards of this icon. It is the patronal icon of an ecumenical group to which I used to belong.

Hey Effie-

It's a debatable historical claim that St. Andrew may have set up the original Church in Byzantium, later to become Constantinople. I don't know if there's any serious evidence, but they started claiming it around the time that Constantinople started vying for more power.

Anyway, the icon is an awesome gesture, just that symbolism, of Sts. Peter and Andrew embracing. Ut unum sint...
