Valentines Day is Sunday. I am willing to bet that a huge chunk of us really don't do anything special to mark the day. Maybe a card or an extra kiss or two.

Why don't we mix up the February doldrums and throw caution to the wind and do something special. Let's make them wonder what we've been up to.

Let's share some great ideas. You start. I've got nothing.

Jennifer, just for you I googled cheap Valentines Day ideas. This is what I now know about myself......I do not have a romantic bone in my body........

It's very important on Valentine's Day to acknowledge your partner and honor your relationship. For those who aren't able or fond of spending lots of money on gifts however, try one (or all!) of these Valentine's Day ideas to say I love you.

Purchase some clear red balloons. Before blowing them up, place either wrapped candies, small gifts, and/or love poems inside each one, and then give them to your loved one as a bouquet.-- Not happening, blowing up balloons hurts my cheeks and gives me a headache.

Make a meal only out of heart-shaped items, foods that are red, or both. Try red velvet cake, valentini martini, fruit and cheese salad or a heart shaped angel food cake.- not happening...requires cooking

Knit a scarf.- sure

Write a love letter to say I love you.- makes me nervous to think about it
Create handmade coupons with gifts your partner can use anytime, such as a massage or a night out on the town with friends.- remote possibility

Does your partner ever ask you why you love them? Then create your own little booklet using dollar store items just for them entitled, "Why I Love You: # Reasons".- Because you are a great plumber

Make a mixed CD of all of your favorite songs, or create a compilation of love songs that remind you of your mate. Better yet, learn how to play one of these love songs on the guitar and serenade him or her on Valentine's Day.- Me singing would not be romantic, it would be comedic

Learn how to take sexy photos of each other with a digital camera.- not while I have breath in my body

Make your own fortune cookies to take along to a Chinese food restaurant for dinner, and use them to woo your date on Valentine's Day.- again, requires cooking

Grab some construction paper and cut out as many hearts as you like. On each one, share a story about your relationship that shows how much you care. Once finished, take the hearts and string them individually from the ceiling so it looks like your home is
- Maggie will never share her pink or red paper.

I actually may go with a modified version of Rob's idea. I may push back the furniture in the living room and play Just Dance on the Wii with every one. Maybe play "Our song", if I can remember what that was.........

Oh I've got it!!! I am so excited.

That song "Smile" by Uncle Kracker reminds me of my husband. I just turned on the radio and heard it. I am going to play that song, and make some brownies cut out with heart cookie cutters.

I think I will buy that CD so he can play it in his car on the way home from work after a long day.

Wow, I am going to out do myself this year. How is that for inexpensive Jennifer? Go on you tube and listen to it, it's a great song. :)

Oh, Elizabeth, I just love that song, too! What a great idea! I did get my husband the tiny I pod that he's been wanting with some Best Buy points back, and I will download that song on to it. Gosh, am I glad I happened on this thread today. Thank you, and Happy Valentines Day!

Sophie, how about Shania Twain- Still the One

That one could be our theme song. You would have been hard pressed to find people that thought my husband and I would still be together 23 years later, let alone still getting excited when I hear his car pull in the drive at the end of the day. ;)

Now , I am thinking of a cheap little ipod.........this could be fun.

You are on a roll, Elizabeth! He likes Shania Twain, and that is a great song. And I'm thinking "Just Another Day in Paradise" by Phil Vassar. When that song first came out, he said he thought it should be our theme song, and he's probably right. Wow -- 23 years! It will be 25 for us in October. Some days, it seems like yesterday, and others . . . , well, a little bit longer. Do you know how to download songs? I am going to have to try and figure that out. My enthusiasm was slightly tempered when I realized I'd have to figure out how to download music on my own, since I have no teen ager in the house to do it for me. I hope the directions are easier than those for a second grader!

That was such a cute song. I have never heard it before. I love it.

Talk about raining on my parade....I was so excited, I took some of my mad money and went to Target and got that little bitty ipod that clips on your shirt (figured he could work out with it), got an itunes card and I get back here and you remind me that I have no idea whatsoever how to do that. I don't have a teenager in sight either............got to call that neighbor kid.

Sophie,

Just for fun as a throw back to our 80's days, The Power of Love by Huey Lewis.

On the sappy side, Gladys Knight, The Best thing that ever happened to Me.

I need to quit though. I am starting to scare myself with these sappy love songs. So unlike me. ;) Smile is still the best.

OMGsh, I am laughing so hard. If I could send Dancing Queen to my son, I would. He would kill me though.

Great songs! I also love the Dancing Queen idea. Maybe you could find one of those musical Valentine cards, and send it to Zeb anonymously. Well, maybe it is too fresh to be humourous. I just got to that thread today, and am still laughing. I can just imagine how tightly he was wound about the whole thing. LOL

On our second date, my husband and I went to a Dan Fogelberg concert, so I am going to pick out a couple of those songs to add. This is turning out to be so fun! It will be even more fun if the neighbor kid doesn't have plans after school, and will help me with the downloads. I'm probably tempting fate, but how hard can it be?

I think that Ipod is the same one I got my husband. Isn't it so cute? What color did you get?

right now I am missing the valentines dance (it started five minutes ago) because due to a misunderstanding of when we needed her I have no sitter.

Hubby isn't traditional and doesn't observe holidays.

I'd settle for a bag of Oreos.

Is that the same "Smile" written by Charlie Chaplin? :violin:

I think Chinese New Year (of the Tiger) is on Feb 14 this year.

They have huge fireworks displays in some cities.

Put the fireworks out in the snow banks away from the house. Probably won't melt the snow but at least the house won't burn down.

Pray the Rosary together after Mass for the intention of even greater grace for all who are married or planning on getting married.

Other than that, why celebrate a Hallmark Holiday?

Come to think of it, I don't believe someone known as "Uncle Kracker" would be singing that beautiful song. :hold:

#1. It's February and I am bored. Honestly, this day usually goes by unnoticed for the most part with the exception of cutting out hearts with the kids and decorating the dinner table. I have no idea whatsoever what has gotten into me.

#2. Chocolate.

It is not beautiful, but it is cute and upbeat and makes you want to sing along. Go on to you tube and listen to it. I defy you not to start tapping your feet or bobbing your head. :)

My hubby sent this link as my Valentine's card and titled the email "A Valentine from your physicist"

It was cute!
