The Husband Store

A store that sells new husbands has opened in New York City, where a woman may go to choose a husband. Among the instructions at the entrance is a description of how the store operates:

You may visit this store ONLY ONCE! There are six floors and the value of the products increases as the shopper ascends the flights. The shopper may choose any item from a particular floor, or may choose to go up to the next floor, but you cannot go back down except to exit the building!

So, a woman goes to the Husband Store to find a husband. On the first floor the sign on the door reads:

Floor 1 - These men Have Jobs.

She is intrigued, but continues to the second floor, where the sign reads:

Floor 2 - These men Have Jobs and Love Kids.

'That's nice,' she thinks, 'but I want more.'

So she continues upward. The third floor sign reads:

Floor 3 - These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, and are Extremely Good Looking.

'Wow,' she thinks, but feels compelled to keep going.

She goes to the fourth floor and the sign reads:

Floor 4 - These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, are Drop-dead Good Looking and Help With Housework.

'Oh, mercy me!' she exclaims, 'I can hardly stand it!'

Still, she goes to the fifth floor and the sign reads:

Floor 5 - These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, are Drop-dead Gorgeous, Help with Housework, and Have a Strong Romantic Streak.

She is so tempted to stay, but she goes to the sixth floor, where the sign reads:

Floor 6 - You are visitor 31,456,012 to this floor. There are no men on this floor. This floor exists solely as proof that women are impossible to please. Thank you for shopping at the Husband Store.

It would more amusing if most men didn't assume that all of the woman have the qualifications described on floor 5 in the husband store when they're shopping on the first floor of the wife store.

Women are already expected to have a job, be good looking, like kids, do the majority of the housework, and still have time and energy for romance. Why do men feel so put upon when the same expectations are imposed on them?

I shouldn't complain, though. I have one of the good husbands. When I was working he did his fair share of the housework/childcare. I often brag about how "liberated" he is.

Doug,

There is a sequel:

Quote:
To avoid gender bias charges, the store's owner opens a New Wives store just across the street.

The 1st first floor has wives that love sex.

The 2nd floor has wives that love sex, drink beer and have money.

The 3rd,4th, 5th and 6th floors have never been visited.

Rose:
I don't find this to be true. It's pretty much expected that everyone from my generation "has a job". As to being good looking, I see both young men and women with that expectation. And of all the married people I know, its not expected that most of the housework is done by the wife. I have more than one friend who stays home and does "housework" while the wife brings home the bacon.

But you are blessed to have a good spouse.

Mike

Schulzz,

Only because it's true.

Well, prudence prohibits me from commenting on the first issue but drinking beer and/or having money was certainly not a consideration when selecting my spouse.

I was more attracted to the fact that she was kind, compassionate and a devout Catholic girl.

(Of course, it didn't hurt that she was quite pretty, also.)
