Not sure if this is the best place to post so feel free to move. I have done NFP since I heard about it. However, I am now having some medical issues regarding no ovulation and missed periods that have had me taking the pill on and off. I start on it but I worry about the side effects of blood clots, etc as I am only about 4 or 5 yrs from menopause (My dr and I do not believe this is associated with that). DH is more than happy for me to be using ABC for the obvious side effect and especially since we are struggling with NFP because my periods are not regular and I sometimes go several months always in stage one. TBH, it definitely makes it easier for me as well. That being said, and that the doctor knows my problem with ABC, she feels this is the best option. We've also discussed Progesterone only pills at the times that I should be in Phase 2 but she doesn't think that will work but is willing for me to try it. She also said it takes a long time to start working so it's not the best option as the longer I stay in Phase one and the endometrium lining keeps growing the greater my risk for uterine cancer. I don't know if it's okay to take the pill without trying the progesterone only or start out with the pill, get my period straight and then try progesterone only or what? Any advice from someone who has had this?

PS - I know the pill is licit for medical use so my question is that a last resort. Do I need to try everything else? Also, I don't know that much about Progesterone so any info on that would be helpful.

Kim,

This really isn't a good place to get that sort of advice. It's just not one of the best places to learn about NFP. Here's one place where you might find other people who've had similar experiences:

http://forums.delphiforums.com/nfptalk

More than that, I think your best bet is to look for an actual NFP provider. TBH, it sounds like your provider doesn't know what to do other than use the pill, and that's only going to mask whatever the real problem is. The Creighton and Marquette websites have lists, last I knew. If there's no one around you, perhaps there's someone further away who would be willing to look through your lab tests and consult.

Everyone, I'm going to keep a very close eye on this thread. Kooky advice will be deleted. If you're not a doctor, and if you don't have direct experience with this sort of thing, just don't post.

I just want to make sure that you're given good information by people who take your question seriously.

Judy Brown at the American Life League has a couple of contacts who know about this kind of thing, they are practicing medical doctors. I would get her to give you the doctor's contact information so you can discuss with them.
